The Academy

I am very pleased to welcome you to Bath Community Academy.

Following a summer of activity around the school site to prepare to become an Academy, we are now ready to begin this journey from Special Measures to Outstanding:  to achieve this there will need to be close and effective working relationships between students, staff and parents.

Students will now be grouped into the new vertical tutoring communities which will be called Respect, Friendship and Excellence; underpinning the ethos and attitude of the students and staff from the outset at BCA.  With students meeting for part of their day with students of all other ages, I am very optimistic about the impact this will have upon the feeling of family at the Academy and am confident that students will rise to the challenge of being a positive influence upon those both younger and older than themselves.

To ensure that the Academy spends as little time as possible in Special Measures (OfSTED Jan 2012), the academy will be strategically developed under the following headings:

  • Leadership and Management
  • Behaviour and Safety
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Achievement

I am confident that the coming year will be very exciting as the school becomes coeducational and as a new thirst and relentless drive for the achievement of maximum potential in every student, begins to define what it means to be a Bath Community Academy student.

We hope that you will find this pack helpful to you and your child during the Academic Year.  Please take the time to read through it’s contents as there are several occasions requiring your signature.  Please update the personal information sheet.   It is really important that we have a current emergency number in case your child or the school needs to contact you.  Would you please give us an email address so that the school can communicate with you efficiently.  I would like to bring your attention particularly towards the new Home-Academy agreement which underpins our respective roles in ensuring the educational experience of the students’ is Outstanding.  Please do all you can to return these forms by Monday 10th September 2012.

We are planning to finalise the academic calendar for 2012/2013 in the very near future and would invite you to attend an event at the Academy on Thursday 13th September where I, and members of the Leadership Team, will be available to talk to you about the plans for the coming year.

I, and the staff at BCA, are looking forward to the challenges and opportunities to come in 2012/2013.  If at any time you would like to express your views or share your ideas please do not hesitate to contact me or my team.

Yours sincerely,

Adam Williams
